The Utah Procurement Code provides that a procurement may be made without competition when the University determines that there is only one source that can reasonably meet the University’s need for the required supply or service, as described in Utah Code Ann. § 63G-6a-802.

The Purchasing Department has received the following request for sole source procurement

Product and/or Service to be purchased: Pharmacy residency consulting for PGY1 and PGY2 programs to include gap analyses, best practice evaluations, and implementation guidance and support.

Sole Source Supplier: Visante

Earliest Proposed Purchase Date: May 14, 2024

Buyer Name: Kenneth Carlisle

Sole Source Justification:

Specialized pharmacy consulting firm, Visante has a long-standing relationship with University of Utah Health in the development of pharmacy residency programs that are critical to recruitment and staffing at the organization. Visante possesses an intimate and comprehensive understanding of our residency programs as well as a unique experience in residency program leadership and fundamental program change. Given the comprehensive knowledge and experience that Visante possesses specific to the UUHC pharmacy program it would be labor intensive and cost prohibitive to consider other firms in this capacity, hence for this reason Visante is the only viable source to perform these services. We have reviewed in detail offerings from other pharmacy consultants though none of those firms were able to demonstrate specific capabilities in pharmacy residency program development. We have been unable to discover alternative sources that have both the depth and breadth of knowledge required about residency.

This sole source will be valid until December 31st, 2025.
