The Utah Procurement Code provides that a procurement may be made without competition when the University determines that there is only one source that can reasonably meet the University’s need for the required supply or service, as described in Utah Code Ann. § 63G-6a-802.

The Purchasing Department has received the following request for sole source procurement

Product and/or Service to be purchased: Mashgin Self-Checkout System

Sole Source Supplier: Mashgin

Earliest Proposed Purchase Date: March 15, 2024

Buyer Name: Terrance Palmer

Sole Source Justification:

This is a self-checkout system that has the ability to detect hot food as well as CPG items in under half a second, integration with campus card providers, ability to leverage a global data base of images, the ability to load new items locally under 30 seconds and has a tagging feature that allows for engineering healthy outcomes. Currently this is the only manufacture that makes this equipment as it is so new to the market.

This is a unique product and one of a kind. It can’t be modified since there are no other companies that offer this kind of product. The University of Utah has a need for large amounts of cultural food sales of which this product has the ability to leverage a global database of millions of images/items.
